About

The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) of Vilnius is one of the largest and most dynamic art centres in North-East Europe. It is a multifunctional public art centre primarily committed to developing a broad range of exhibitions but in addition producing other programmes that include publishing, lectures, seminars, performances, screenings, music events, education programmes and tours. The CAC is also the organiser and key venue of the Baltic Triennial, currently launching its 13th edition.

TheThe institution oversees 2400 square meters of exhibition space in a modernist marvel designed by architect Vytautas Čekanauskas, inaugurated in 1968 as the Art Exhibition Palace, which the newly-found CAC replaced in 1992. Currently the CAC organises around 15 exhibitions per year. Its only permanent display is dedicated to Lithuania born Fluxus founder George Maciunas (Jurgis Mačiūnas) and is comprised of a part of Gilbert and Lila Silverman Fluxus Collection (currently part of the collection of MoMA, New York), a permanent loan since 1997.

The CAC joined Corpus in 2014 in order to support and help promote performance art in Lithuania. Its participation in Corpus Network is partially supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
