Cally Spooner

OFFSHORE

Description

“The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens.”
—Jared Kushner, 2017.

Since 2015 Cally Spooner has been probing the connections between social, economic, biological and neuronal organisation, thereby coming closer to staging a question: how to imagine new conditions, communication and terms for a performing company, a corporate company or the company of others per se, in 2017? Whilst reflecting on capitalism's mastering of language, time and all that lives, Spooner and her collaborators attempt to establish alternative rhythms and vocabulary over a period of years.

Working across various venues, cities, and staged against the slowly violent and often invisible backdrop of the 21st Century’s mediated choreography of language and bodily organisation, this is a project that could simply be described as a study of Management. The study itself though takes the form of a multifaceted project of multiple durations and forms, driven by a desire to create and maintain a state of rehearsal.
