Four videos at Playground

Thursday 16 November 2017, 5–10pm / Friday 17–Sunday 19 November 2017, 11am–6pm / Playground, Leuven

Using theatre, drawing, literature and sculpture, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa’s work conjures live and sculptural representations that explore themes of loss, identity and displacement.

For Corpus, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa developed a cycle of new performance works. Across the punctuated moments of the cycle, Ramírez-Figueroa used his body and direct action to perform a series of images related to the history of the Guatemalan Civil War. Approaching the Civil War from a personal position, he has softened these images through abstraction and humour, while attempting to use the intensity of the performance schedule to push beyond the immense force of the collective and inscribed memory of the war’s history. Beyond the live performances the cycle of works form a collection of videos.

Playground is presenting four videos from this cycle in a loop: Illusion of Matter, The Print of Sleep, Mimesis of Mimesis, and Linnæus in Tenebris.

Illusion of Matter is produced by Tate Modern and streamed as a live performance in their Performance Room. The Print of Sleep and Mimesis of Mimesis are produced by If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, as part of Edition VI – Event and Duration. Linnæus in Tenebris is produced by CAPC Bordeaux, as part of Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa’s solo exhibition with the same title.
